The Lifestyle You Want and the Financial Goals You Need
You’re not everybody else. You have your own dreams and aspirations, and you live your life your way to the best of your ability. What if you could live the life of your dreams sooner than later?
That’s where financial planning comes into play. Set goals to set yourself free. Inc Magazine says “Goal-setting literally alters the structure of your brain so that you perceive and behave in ways that will cause you to achieve those goals.” Here’s a quick rundown on how to get started:
Short Term: 1-2 years
● Open and regularly contribute to a regular savings account
● Automate deposits: have part of your direct deposit go straight to it!
● Old adages specify 10% of your income, but even 2-5% can make a huge difference
● Purpose: for vacations, life events such as marriage, repairs, gift-giving, charity, etc.
Mid-Term: 2-5 years
● Invest in interest-bearing accounts
● Include mutual funds, stocks, or fixed-rate products such as CDs (Certificates of Deposit), and more
● Purpose: for a down payment on a home, refinancing, debt payoff, or larger expenses
Long Term: 5 Years or longer
● These require more planning and, usually, some financial education and assistance ● Include retirement plans such as IRAs (Roth and Individual), 401ks, and more ● Purpose: to help facilitate and ease expenses over years and to manage your wealth
