Prepping Your Vehicle For The Colder Months

Car in the snow

Winter is coming! Before we know it, the trees will be bare, the grass will be white with snow, and the roads will be slick. It’s that time of year again to start prepping your vehicle for winter conditions. Unity Catholic Federal Credit Union is providing our members with a checklist to refer to when prepping vehicles for the colder months. It’s best to get started now so the only thing you’ll have to worry about when the temperature starts dropping is which fuzzy socks to put on when sitting in front of a fire, drinking hot chocolate.

First things first: ask yourself if the car you have now will be able to handle the winter season. If not, it might be time to shop for a new car to keep you and any loved ones safe. If you are in the market for a new or used vehicle, Unity Catholic Federal Credit Union offers great, low rates on new and used Vehicle Loans. We offer interest rates with terms up to 72 months.

If your vehicle can sustain the winter weather, the checklist below will help you prepare:

  • Make sure your heater and defroster are working properly

  • Check your windshield wipers and make sure they are new and/or they are cleaning your windshield completely

  • Invest in wiper fluid that contains antifreeze. This is a great alternative to scraping your windshield on frosty mornings. Make sure you have an ice scraper/snow wiper. Always keep this in your car, because you never know when you might need it

  • Keep a blanket in your car just in case of an emergency that requires you  to stay warm.

  • Check your tires

  • Keep your gas tank full

  • Get a basic tune-up, inspection, and oil change

  • Check your 4-wheel drive and understand how to use it

It is important to complete these items before the cold hits. If this list looks a little daunting because it’s more than you anticipated, don’t worry. Consider using the resources offered to you by Unity Catholic Federal Credit Union. We offer Personal Loans that can be used for any reason. Use one of our Personal Loans to prepare your vehicle for winter and repay the loan over an extended period. This is a great way to help budget your money during the holiday season.

Don’t forget that your friends here at Unity Catholic Federal Credit Union are always here to help our members and those in our community. Feel free to reach out to us or visit our website if you have any more questions about how to have the coziest winter yet!
