How To Avoid Holiday Credit Card Scammers

The holiday shopping season is in full swing. Unfortunately, so are scammers. We know that this year, a majority of holiday purchases will be made online, with a credit card. When shopping with your Unity Catholic FCU VISA® Card, keep in mind three smart spending tips that will keep both you and your holiday savings safe!

First, start by making sure your information is secure when shopping online. If you’re making purchases in public, like at a coffee shop, be aware of those around you. Double check that individuals near you cannot see your credit card number or online login credentials. If you’re using a personal device in a public area, be sure to disconnect from public Wi-Fi and access cellular data. This will ensure that your private information cannot be stolen by others using the public network.

Second, limit your shopping to websites that are reputable and recognizable. Big-name retailers take many steps to protect your personal information. They also are generally open to returns and refunds for items that are less than satisfactory.

Third, closely monitor your credit-card statements for fraudulent charges. Keep record of your transactions and compare them to your statements on a regular basis. Your Unity Catholic FCU VISA® Card comes with Verified by Visa for added security during online shopping. In the unlikely event that you do come across a fraudulent charge, contact Unity Catholic FCU immediately.

You’ve saved all year, made a budget, and plan for the perfect holiday. By following these three easy steps, you can shop online with confidence, and keep scammers far away!
