Fun Savings Challenges for #AmericaSavesWeek

This past week has been America Saves week. To recap, here are the savings challenges that has been shared on our social media, as well as a few other ones you can do!

RECAP of our #WeeklySavingsChallenges

  • Week 1: The No Spend Challenge- Try to go the entire week without spending anything aside from necessities! To make this challenge even more interesting, do it with a friend. See who can last the longest without spending!

  • Week 2: Spare Change Challenge- Find all the spare change you can, including your childhood piggy bank (which might actually have a large chunk of change in it!). Then, save all the change you collect throughout the week/month and deposit it into your savings account!

  • Week 3: Swear Jar- Ah, yes. The good ole swear jar. Instead, make it a bad habits jar. Each time you do one of your bad habits, donate some money to the jar. Tackle the bad habits and save while doing it!

  • Week 4: The $5 challenge- Use cash to pay for as much as you can! Every time you get a $5 bill, put it in your savings! Putting away small amounts of money, like $5, doesn’t seem like too much in that moment. Instead of feeling like your “losing” a large chunk of change all at once, you are just putting away a tiny amount throughout a period of time! Plus, using cash can help you physically see how much you are spending and (hopefully) keep you from too many impulse buys!

More #SavingsChallenges!

  • The 52 Week Savings Challenge- Match each week’s saving amount to the number of the week in your challenge. For week one, save $1. For week two, save $2. For week three, save $3 and so on. If you stick this challenge out, you will save a total of $1,378! You can also do this challenge in reverse, and start with the highest amount first!

  • 3 Month Savings Challenge- Put aside $11 a day for three months. You end up with $1,000 at the end! This is another great challenge that breaks down a large amount into several smaller amounts to make it easier!

  • Bottle Savings Challenge-Fill a plastic bottle with coins. You can use one type of coin for each bottle, or just mix it all up! You can physically see how much you are saving, and it’s fun for the kids!

  • Save Your Savings Challenge- Did you know that most store receipts tell you how much you’ve saved from coupons or in store sales? Keep your receipts and put the total amount you saved into your savings account. This could end up adding to hundreds of dollars!

To make these savings challenges even more fun, turn them into a competition with your friends! Who doesn’t like some friendly competition? Remember, saving is a mindset, not a burden, so happy savings!
