10 Cheap Halloween Costumes
Fall is finally here, which means Halloween is right around the corner! The second best thing about Halloween is getting to dress up (the first is having an excuse to eat candy for a month straight). Costumes are fun and festive, but they can also be expensive. We’ve put together a list of costumes that won’t cost you an arm and a leg, including the zombie option.
1. Mummy
This is a classic because it’s not only spooky but easy! All you need is toilet paper or gauze bandages. You can wear white clothes underneath to kick it up a notch, but regular clothes will do just fine.
2. Zombie
Dig up some old clothes and get crafty! Add rips and stains wherever you want to give off the undead vibes. You can stain the clothes with red food coloring, chocolate syrup, or whatever you have lying around the house. Use dark-colored makeup on your face to complete the look.
3. Farmer
If you have cowboy boots and a hat, you’re set. If not, just search the thrift store for some overalls or a plaid shirt you can tuck into jeans. Even a baseball cap would work with the overalls if you’re not into the cowboy hat!
4. Nerd
Break out your button-down shirt and slacks. All you need to add is glasses and an accessory like a calculator, book, or protractor. Put a couple of pens in your shirt pocket and slick down your hair for extra credit!
5. Artist
Find a smock or apron and splatter some paint on it. Then, head to your local craft store and pick up a plastic palette and a paintbrush. Add some paint to the palette and let it dry. You can put face paint on to make it look like you’ve been working on your next masterpiece.
6. Work
From Home This costume might be easy if you already work from home! Just wear a business look on top and pajamas with slippers on the bottom. Extra points if you carry a coffee mug filled with any beverage but coffee.
7. Librarian
Throw on a dress and a cardigan and put your hair in a bun or claw clip. Add glasses and a book to tie it all together. Lastly, make sure you shush people!
8. Chef
Put on white pants and a white shirt and hunt down a chef’s hat. You can even try making one out of construction paper! Carry around a wooden spoon to top it off.
9. Spooky Prom Queen
Repurpose your old prom dress or find one at the thrift store. Rip up the dress and add fake blood stains to make things spooky! Add a plastic tiara for good measure. You can even go the extra mile by making your own ‘prom queen’ sash.
10. Yoga Instructor
Just open your dresser drawer and grab a workout outfit! Accessorize with a headband and a yoga mat to evoke all things zen. Find a yoga mat strap or bag to sling your mat over your shoulder.
Costumes should be fun, not stressful. Haunted houses and scary movies should be the only things that spook you this Halloween - not your bank account balance!
